Are you looking for a scholarship opportunity? Are you a student attending a college that is part of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)?
Are you a lawful or permanent citizen of the United States? Are you a black student looking for financial aid?
Well, the McDonald’s Black and Positively Golden Scholarship was created just for you.
OVERVIEW OF THE MCDONALDS BLACK AND POSITIVELY GOLDEN SCHOLARSHIP
McDonald’s USA, in alliance with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) and Alkeme, created the Black and Positively Golden Scholarship for students attending historically black colleges and universities.
The scholarship was created in 2020. According to “Moving Upward and Onward”, a study done by Samuel DeWitt, the HBCU has more students who go through upward mobility than every other institution.
It was stated that about seventy percent (70%) of the institution’s students are middle-class income earners.
Consequently, McDonalds, fully aware of the impact the institution has on black youth, created the scholarship to encourage and elevate the black community as well as create a means for students who desire to acquire a degree at HBCU to actualize this dream.
The HBCU, launched in 2020, is a program created to help alleviate the strain on many of the families of the students who attend HBCUs, who cannot support their children financially due to the impact of COVID-19.
The Black and Positively Golden Scholarship supports determined students who are dedicated to attaining success, irrespective of the situation they find themselves in.
The scholarship has greatly influenced the lives of students such as Olivia Harris, who expresses her gratitude to the scholarship body for giving her enough time to focus on attaining educational excellence.
The Black and Positively Golden Scholarship Program is one of the establishments created by McDonald’s to aid in achieving its commitment to supporting these individuals who are determined to achieve success.
All through its twenty-year partnership with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, McDonald’s has put in millions of dollars as investments to provide support directly or indirectly to benefit the students as well as the organization.
Marty Gillis, New Jersey McDonald’s Franchisee and National Diversity Marketing Committee Lead, said that the company is honored to provide support to the students of HBCUs who are finding it hard to get finances due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Annually, McDonald’s awards five hundred thousand dollars to current and incoming students at HBCUs.
The scholarship is usually given to 34 students who meet the eligibility standards. This year, the organization has decided to go bigger by awarding sixty-three (63) students who need financial aid scholarships.
The students are usually awarded fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000) in scholarship funds. And the funds for the 2023–2024 academic school year are no exception.
The awarded students receive seven thousand, five hundred dollars ($7,500) per academic session.
