With the increase in the cost of college expenses, students have sought means to aid their finances in the course of their academic pursuits.

One such means is through scholarships. Are you a student at an institution that is part of a Phi Theta Kappa chapter?

Are you a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society? then, there are many scholarship opportunities for you.

OVERVIEW OF THE PHI THETA KAPPA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

PHI THETA KAPPA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Established in 1918, the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society acknowledges and encourages the academic achievements of students who are enrolled in college for a two-year course.

This honor society is one of the oldest and most prestigious ones with one thousand, three hundred (1,300) on campuses in college in the entirety of the 50 United States, territorial possessions in the United States and 11 sovereign states.

The president and CEO of the PTK Honor Society is currently Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner. The society is vast in its growth, with approximately one hundred and thirty thousand students (130,000) inducted into it every year.

Since its inception, over 3.8 million students have been inducted into the society. Students who are members of this society are eligible to enjoy benefits such as being given the Phi Theta Kappa diploma seal, being given the privilege to put on the honors tassel and stole, being open to a variety of scholarships, and being given the honor of being an alumni member of the society after their graduation.

However, out of all these benefits, scholarships are the number one reason many students become members of society.

The mission of the foundation is to obtain the financial resources needed to support the values, vision and honor of the foundation’s honor society.

In recent times, the scholarship opportunities provided by society have stretched to four-year institutions. To be acknowledged as members of society, transcripts of students will be sent to their various four-year institutions. This will identify them as members of the society.

Annually, the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society awards funds of one and a half million dollars ($1,500,000) to its members.

For her four-year college partners, two hundred and fifty million dollars ($250,000,000) will be awarded in scholarships to members of the PTK Honor Society.

Membership in this society is by invitation only. Students invited must have obtained a minimum GPA of 3.5 and have completed twelve college credits. As mentioned earlier, they must also be students of an institution with a chapter of the PTK Honor Society.

Each chapter may have requirements for joining their chapter.

To stay in society, students must maintain a CGPA of 3.0. As of today, many four-year colleges aid member students to transfer to their schools by awarding scholarships.

The society offers a myriad of scholarships, some of which include: the Oberndorf Lifeline to Completion Scholarship, which awards one thousand dollars to eligible members; the Nota Bene Scholarship, which awards $1,000 to members who show proficiency and excellence in writing; and the Coca-Cola Academic Scholarship, which awards two hundred members stipends ranging from one thousand dollars ($1,000) to one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500).

Other scholarships members of this society can apply for include the New Century Pathway Programs for Transfer and Workforce Students, the IPSLEI Public Safety, Fire Science, and Criminal Justice Scholarships, Regional Scholarships and a host of other scholarships.

The scholarship application for any of the programs under this society is open from January to December but is divided into fall and spring applications.

Applicants are expected to keep their applications updated so their eligibility for programs will be relevant through the two due dates for the applications.
